Tanzania’s Bulyanhulu-Geita 220kV Substation and Transmission Line Project undertaken by China CAMC Engineering Co (CAMCE), a subsidiary of Sinomach, received its completion certificate from the owner Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO), marking its smooth delivery and the beginning of its warranty period.

The project was CAMCE’s first after entering the Tanzania market. The construction included a new substation in Geita and expansion of the original 220kV substation in Bulyanhulu, both in northwest Tanzania, as well as installation of 55 kilometers of transmission lines between the two substations along with 161 towers.

The contract for the project was signed in August 2018, and work started in January 2019.

Challenged both by the rapidly spreading novel coronavirus pandemic and heavy rainfall, the project team endeavored to coordinate domestic and international resources, plan scientific construction management, and optimize relevant technologies. Supported by strict epidemic prevention and control measures they completed the project as scheduled with high quality.

The project’s smooth delivery signified that the company’s strength in the EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) mode has received local recognition, which creates a good corporate image for CAMCE in Tanzania and sharpens its competitive edge in developing the local electricity market.
